What it does

Suno is an AI music platform that generates full songs from text prompts. Users can create vocal songs, instrumentals, background music, jingles, demo ideas, podcast/YouTube music, and social media music. Suno does not focus only on short loops or samples; it aims to create complete songs with lyrics, vocals, melody, arrangement, and a production feel.

As of May 2026, Suno’s most current model is Suno v5.5 (launched March 26, 2026). v5.5 improves expressive music generation while adding a stronger personalization layer through Voices, Custom Models, and My Taste. Voices lets users create music with their own verified singing voice; Custom Models let users tune the model using at least 6 of their original tracks (up to 3 personalized models); My Taste learns the user’s preferred styles over time.

Suno’s second major layer is Suno Studio. Suno Studio is positioned as a browser-based generative audio workstation. It combines traditional DAW concepts with AI generation, enabling timeline editing, layering, stem editing, section replacement, and creative variation generation.

Models

Suno v5.5 (March 26, 2026) — Suno’s best and most personal model as of May 2026. Offers stronger vocals, better song structure, more personalized sound, and creator-focused workflows. Voices, Custom Models, and My Taste features only work on v5.5.

Suno v5 (September 23-25, 2025) — Studio-grade audio, realistic vocals, and clean mixes. Available to Pro and Premier users. Positioned as the engine powering Suno Studio.

Suno v4.5+ — Advanced variant of the v4.5 family. Used for richer tones, better prompt following, and stronger creative control.

Suno v4.5-All — Best model available on the free plan. Targets better song structure and genre accuracy.

Suno is not priced like a text model such as ChatGPT or Claude with per-token input/output pricing. The core product uses credits. The Free plan gives 50 credits per day; Pro gives 2,500 monthly credits; Premier gives 10,000 monthly credits.

Pricing

  • Free ($0/mo) — v4.5-All only, 50 daily credits (~10 songs), no commercial use, no WAV download, no stems, shared queue
  • Pro ($10/mo or $8/mo yearly) — v5.5 and v5 access, 2,500 monthly credits (~500 songs), commercial rights, Voices, Custom Models, Personas, 12 stems, priority queue
  • Premier ($30/mo or $24/mo yearly) — Suno Studio (DAW) access, v5.5 and v5, 10,000 monthly credits (~2,000 songs), commercial rights, every feature unlocked
  • Credit Top-ups — $8 for 2,500 credits or $24 for 10,000 credits; no expiration with active subscription

The Free plan is suitable for personal experimentation but does not include commercial use rights. For YouTube, Spotify, advertising, client work, or branded content, Pro or Premier is required. Pro and Premier users retain 100% of revenue from Suno-generated songs.

Strengths

Weaknesses

  • Free plan does not include commercial use, WAV downloads, stems, or audio upload

  • High-quality output often requires many generations and human selection
  • Lyrics can sometimes feel clichéd, repetitive, or generic
  • Credit-based workflow can run out quickly for heavy production
  • AI training, copyright, licensing, and artist-rights issues remain a major legal risk in the music industry
  • No official public developer API; only third-party wrappers available

Ecosystem

The Suno ecosystem has four main parts: Suno Web App, Suno Studio, Personalization Features, and Song Editor.

Suno Web App lets end users generate full songs, instrumentals, vocals, and lyrics by writing prompts. This is the main usage layer for Free, Pro, and Premier plans.

Suno Studio is a browser-based generative audio workstation. With timeline editing, layering, stem editing, and AI-powered production tools, it moves Suno from a simple song generator toward a more serious music production environment. Available on Premier only.

Voices, Custom Models, and My Taste are the personalization layer introduced with v5.5. Voices verifies and stores the user’s voice for private use; Custom Models tune the model on the user’s original music (minimum 6 tracks, up to 3 models); My Taste learns music preferences.

Song Editor provides crop, fade, section replacement, cover, extend, stem extraction, and audio upload tools. This lets users reshape existing tracks, not just generate new songs.

Suno does not have a mature plugin/agent marketplace like Claude Skills or MCP. Even so, it is an important creative layer in AI production chains for music, dubbing, video, games, advertising, and social media content.
